"Originally SuperBattle was just an action sequence that I wanted to create for my stop-motion reel, but it went through an unplanned evolution over the course of shooting. My career started in stop-motion but I had been employed for several years in computer animation. Working long hours in a virtual reality made me miss the tactile joy of building puppets and animating them on detailed miniature sets that are bathed in real light.

As a way to get back into stop-motion, I started exploring simple ideas that would be possible to shoot on weekends in my small garage studio. Science fiction films have always inspired me and I knew I wanted to do something that would allow me to tap into my love of films like Blade Runner, Logan’s Run and the original Star Wars films. The basic idea I decided on was to create two dynamic, super-powered characters and throw them against each other in a bleak futuristic environment.

That idea is still at the core of the project but over the several years of weekends it took to complete, SuperBattle found a life of it’s own and unexpectedly grew in scope. I started to see the possibility of turning my little action sequence into a bigger story, and began creating other characters and scenes to flesh it out. My first completed episode of SuperBattle is the result of this organic path I followed. It introduces the audience to the characters and sets the scene for future episodes. My hope is that it is fun and exciting to watch and leaves people wanting to see what happens next!"
